The Neat caused an absolute storm in Hull before they had played a gig, then they raised eyebrows and turned irides (plus a few pupils) green when they got selected for Leeds Festivals' Unsigned stage.
Still, they weathered the backlash and got stronger, eventually catching the eye of a certain Steve Lamacq and were described thus:
"Latter day Fall jostling with the XX Teens; the drums pound along mercilessly, while the sinewy guitar sounds like it's been exhumed from 1979 and the dry staccato vocals stab mantras through the flailing body."
